Dr. Jeanne M. Belfy joined the faculty of the Department of Music at Boise State
University in 1983. She has a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Kentucky in
cooperation with the University of Louisville, an M.Mus. in music history from Ball State
University, and a B.M.Ed. from Northern Michigan University. Her primary teaching
responsibilities are in music history and oboe instruction, and she also serves as the
coordinator of graduate programs in music. Dr. Belfy has performed over thirty-five
faculty recitals at Boise State, as a soloist and a chamber player. Her oboe pupils have
won numerous contests and competitions, and have gone on to earn advanced degrees at
prestigious institutions across the country. Her writing includes articles in refereed
journals, Festschrifts, and reference books, and she has reviewed over 170 CD recordings
for the Journal of the International Double Reed Society. She is also the founding
director of the Boise Chamber Music Society which presents an annual four-concert series
of professional touring artists.
