Professional Janice DeLong has served on the faculty of Liberty University since 1985. During her first eighteen years, she held faculty membership in the School of Education and College of General Studies, where she supervised student teachers and taught study strategies classes. While in that capacity, she also taught Children’s Literature as adjunct faculty to the School of Communication, and Bibliotherapy as adjunct to the Psychology Department. In 2004, she transferred to the Department of English and Modern Languages, School of Communication as full time faculty. She is one of those professors who has the rare privilege of executing academic obligations incorporating a discipline that first was a hobby and later became a vocation, the collection and study of books for children and adolescents. Currently, she teaches Children’s Literature and Basic Composition. Mrs. DeLong holds degrees in counseling and reading, as well as post graduate hours in children’s literature. Prior to joining the Liberty University faculty, she taught in public and Christian schools as well as being actively involved in home schooling. She also has experience as a social worker and a juvenile probation officer. Personal Mrs. DeLong and her husband, Robert, are the parents four adult children: Michael, Beth, Lynne, and Kara. They are also the proud grandparents of three grandchildren, Brady, Darby, and Joshua. In summer, the DeLongs enjoy flower gardening. They enjoy camping and reading year round. Janice is an avid collector of children’s books and all things related to Raggedy Ann and Andy. Having found Christ at age five, Janice is an almost life-time member of the Baptist church. She has served in church nurseries, choirs, and initiated a reading forum, Ladies of the Round Table. She serves on the library committee of her church, and works in the tiny-baby nursery.
