Free Your Textbook: Quality Course Materials for Every Student
Gettysburg College (2014)
  • Janelle Wertzberger, Gettysburg College
Abstract
Assistant Professor Josef Brandauer’s students pay nothing for their textbooks in the Statistics for the Health Sciences course. How does that work?
Join us for Free Your Textbook: Quality Course Materials for Every Student on Tuesday, 4/15/14, at noon (Specialty Dining Room 19).
If you are frustrated that not all students purchase the textbooks you thoughtfully select, puzzled by the dizzying costs of those books, or annoyed that the exact book you want doesn’t seem to exist, then open textbooks might be for you. High quality, professionally-authored, peer-reviewed, open textbooks are now available! They are free to use and also open to reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. Learn more about the open textbook movement, how to find open books in your field, and whether they make a difference in student learning. Josef Brandauer will talk about his experience adopting an open textbook for his HS 232 course.
