About James S. Reichard

Dr. Reichard is currently a Professor at the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability at Georgia Southern University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Geology (1995) from Purdue University in Indiana. Prior to his Ph.D., Dr. Reichard worked as an environmental consultant in Cleveland, Ohio, and as a photogeologist in Denver, Colorado. He obtained his M.S. (1984) and B.S. (1981) degrees from the University of Toledo in Ohio, specializing in structural geology and petroleum geology.

At Georgia Southern, Dr. Reichard teaches courses in environmental geology and hydrogeology. In terms of research, his early work involved modeling the effects of pore pressure changes on groundwater flow systems and on developing computing applications for aquifer tests. Since coming to Georgia Southern, his attention has shifted towards applied hydrologic research on the Georgia coastal plain. His current research involves identifying permeable pathways within the coastal plain that allow groundwater to flow vertically between aquifer systems. In addition to his hydrogeologic research, Dr. Reichard has published Environmental Geology with McGraw Hill, which is now in its third edition.
