About Jacob Dorn

Jacob H. Dorn was a professor at Wright State University since 1965. He was founding director of the University Honors Program from 1973 to 1987 and was president of the Wright State faculty in 1977-1978. Active in civic and religious organizations, as well as in professional societies, he served as president of the Dayton Area Campus Ministry Board (1972), the Ohio Board for United Ministries in Higher Education (1983-1984), the Mid-East Honors Association (1985-1986), the Dayton Council on World Affairs (1988-1990), and the Ohio Academy of History (1991-1992) serving as President for the 2010-2011 term. He also sat on the Board of Managers of the American Baptist Historical Society, its executive committee, and the management council of its American Baptist Quarterly from the late 1980's to late 1990's and on the executive board of the Conference on Faith and History from 1991 to 1993. The Ohio Academy of History honored him with its Outstanding Teacher and Distinguished Service awards in 1986 and 1997, respectively. His wife Carole is a retired elementary school teacher. Both of his children have advanced degrees in history; his son is editor-in-chief of Backpacker magazine and his daughter teaches Asian history at Wayne State University.
