Irmak Renda-Tanali holds a position as Collegiate Associate Professor and Program
Director at the University of Maryland University College where she teaches and
coordinates Homeland Security and Emergency Management graduate degree programs. 

She was formerly a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and
Risk Management of the George Washington University where she obtained her doctorate
degree in Engineering Management from the Department of Engineering Management and
Systems Engineering. She also holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. 

Dr. Renda-Tanali previously worked as a civil engineer as the head of her own engineering
design, consulting and construction company.
