A native of Argentina, Hugo Alejandro Acciarri is respected and basically an
authority on tort Law. He received a law degree, graduating first in his class, from
Universidad Nacional de la Plata, Argentina, and a doctoral law degree, graduating summa
cum laude, from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He has served as Academic Dean at the
Universidad Nacional de la Plata, and at the Universidad Nacional del Sur, in Bahía
Blanca, Argentina, where he teaches civil law and economic analysis of law. He codirects
the Fundação Getulio Vargas Instituto Latino Americano e do Caribe de Direito e Economia
(FGV-ILACDE), which operates from the Fundação Getulio Vargas's law school in São
Paulo, Brazil. In the United States, he is on the law faculty of the Alben W. Barkley
School of Law. He has also served as visiting lecturer at Harvard's Real Colegio
Complutense, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Universidad Carlos III, the
Universidad de la Rioja and the Universidad de Granada, in Spain.
