A native of Perú, Hernando de Soto´s research interests are in the area of the
economics of development. He did post-graduate work at L'Institut universitaire de
hautes études internationales in Geneva, Switzerland. A Downey Fellow at Yale University,
he received the 2002 Goldwater Award from the Goldwater Institute and the 2004 Milton
Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty from the Cato Institute. A small sample of his
