Biography, Disciplines and Teaching Interests
I began my academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health & Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University in 1995.  My academic training is a B.S. and M.S. in Food and Nutrition Science, and a PhD in Community Health Education form SIUC.  Currently I am Professor in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.  My passion is teaching.  Courses that I have taught include graduate and undergraduate Research Methods courses, Intro to Global Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Maternal and Child Health, and a freshman 1220 Money Matters Finance course.  My particular areas of research are in Maternal and Child Health, Physical Activity, and Stress.  My research publications align with these interests (35+ peer reviewed articles, 125+ peer-reviewed presentations, 2 books, 25 grants). I believe service is the rent you pay for your space here on Earth.   I make annual trips to Haiti and serve as a Medical Translator.  I also work the Emory University PA and Medical Schools in the same capacity twice a year with mobile medical trips to southeast Georgia to serve farmworkers.  Currently, I am Co-Chair of the University Strategic Planning Committee.  I am President-Elect for Faculty Senate, I have served as senator for the College of Health and Human Sciences and now with JPHCOPH.  I have served as the Chair for the P&T Committee for our college and Chair of the Curriculum Committee.
