E. Hatheway (Hathy) Simpson, MPH, is the Public Health Information Specialist at the
Lamar Soutter Library, University of Massachusetts Medical School, under subcontract with
the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, New England Region. Her work focuses on
improving access to and awareness of information resources for public health practice.
She serves as the Content Manager for PHPartners.org, the website of the Partners in
Information Access for the Public Health Workforce, a collaboration of U.S. government
agencies, public health organizations, and health sciences libraries. Hathy develops and
conducts training programs and professional continuing education classes for public
health professionals, students, and health information specialists on finding and using
evidence-based information resources. She developed the Evidence-Based Practice for
Public Health web portal and coordinated a program to provide public health professionals
with access to full-text journal articles. Her previous experience includes managing a
research study that assessed the information needs of public health professionals and
providing reference services at the UMass Medical School Library. She has a Masters of
Public Health from the University of Connecticut Health Center and a B.A. in Biology from
Colby College.
