Gaetano Rando was born in Rome (Italy) in 1942, has gained tertiary qualifications
in Italian literature, linguistics and TESOL at Australian and Italian Universities and
has taught at the University of Western Australia, Griffith and Wollongong universities,
the University of Auckland in New Zealand and universities in Perugia, Macerata, Florence
and Reggio Calabria in Italy. He is a world authority on Italian-Australian studies and
has translated a number of literary and non-literary works of Italian/Australian
interest. His main teaching areas are Italian language and civilisation and in English
Language and Linguistics with subjects currently taught being ELL310, LING210, ELL151,
ELL152, LANG305, ITAL110. He has successfully supervised and examined honours and higher
degree theses in Italian Australian literature, Italian Australian language,
socio-historical aspects of the Italian presence in Australia, contemporary Italian
narrative, the sociolinguistics of contemporary Italian, translation. Searchable UOW RIS
