Frederik H. Green came to Macalester from Yale University, where he received his Ph.D. and where he had been teaching in the East Asian Languages and Literatures department. A native of Germany, Frederik received a BA in Chinese Studies from Cambridge University in England. He came to the US after spending two years in Tokyo, where he studied at the Institute for Oriental Cultures at Tokyo University. His dissertation discusses the modern Chinese writer Xu Xu in the context of literary Romanticism. His research interests include Republican period literature and film, Hong Kong literature and Sino-Japanese relations. Green has been teaching at Macalester since 2009.
