Fernando de Trazegnies Granda is regarded as one of Perú’s foremost law professors.
He won first-class honours and obtained his law degree and a doctor of laws degree from
the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he teaches civil law, Roman law and
legal history. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Paris and as a
visiting scholar at Harvard Law School. Dean at his alma mater from 1976-1987, he has
visited at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas and the Pontificia Universidad
Católica Argentina Santa María de los Buenos Aires. He served as Perú's Foreign
Minister from 1998-2000, and brokered the accord with Ecuador that ended a half-century
dispute over a 48-mile section of the Andean foothills, the jungle-covered Cordillera del
Condor region, that the neighboring countries had fought wars in 1941, 1981, and 1995 to
control. A member of the Sovereign Military Order of The Knights of Malta, he is a fellow
of the Academia Peruana de la Lengua and the Academia Nacional de la Historia. A small
sample of his publications is listed below.
