About Erin M Sumner

Dr. Sumner is a west-coast native who came to Trinity after earning her Ph.D. at Arizona State University’s Hugh Downs School of Human Communication. Her research focuses on the role of computer-mediated communication (e.g., social networking sites, online dating, and other communication technologies) in social and personal relationships, and she utilized this knowledge as a doctoral intern with the Socio-Digital Systems group at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, UK. Her work has appeared in edited books, as well as journals such as Communication Monographs, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, Communication Methods and Measures, and Communication Reports, and has received Outstanding Dissertation and Top 4 Paper awards from various divisions of the National Communication Association.
