A native of Colombia, Emilio José Archila Peñalosa is an academic and veteran of
government service. He received his law degree from the Universidad Externado de
Colombia, where he teaches economic regulatory law and serves as Chair of the law and
economics program. He received a master's degree in comparative jurisprudence from
New York University. He has served as head of the the Superintendency of Industry and
Commerce, Colombia's regulatory agency, and lectures in corporate finance and
mergers and acquisitions at the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the
Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, the Universidad de San Buenaventura de Calí and the
Universidad del Norte de Barranquilla.
