Dr. Swanson's research has evolved from a health promotion emphasis to the study of the effects of nursing interventions to promote positive outcomes for patients with Alzheimer's disease and their families. Dr. Swanson is Co-Editor of Advances in Gerontological Nursing. She is also examining family caregiving issues in the former Soviet Union. Dr. Swanson serves as Public Relations and Policy Director for the John A. Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence. She also works with representatives of the long-term care industry to define effective strategies to promote retention of staff in long-term care facilities.
