previously the Director of the Queensland Clinical Trials Centre, University of
Queensland and Princess Alexandra Hospital. During 2009 she was a Visiting Research
Scientist at the UK Cochrane Centre and the Centre for Statistics in Medicine at the
University of Oxford.

Her research interests include the reporting of clinical research, better conduct and use
of randomised controlled trials, and outcomes measurement in clinical trials. Elaine has
been involved in the design, conduct and analysis of controlled clinical trials for more
than 20 years, and has worked in many therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology,
diabetes, orthopaedics and nephrology. During that time she was instrumental in the

support teams for these groups, including study coordination, data management,
statistical design and analysis, and study monitoring. Elaine has more than 50
peer-reviewed publications related to her work in clinical research.

Elaine has developed and led numerous workshops on clinical trials methods, systematic
reviews, and epidemiology for clinicians, research scientists, statisticians and research
coordinators, has developed online teaching materials in these areas, and led a
successful academic statistical consulting service for clinical researchers.
