Dr. Doug Swanson is an accredited public relations practitioner (APR) certified by the Public Relations Society of America. He earned his Ed.D in education teaching/ mass communication education in 1999 at Oklahoma State University. He has been teaching at the college level since 1990 and has taught communication-related courses in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and California. He was the founding director of the university Academic Advising Center at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In 2006, Swanson joined California Polytechnic State University in Central California as an associate professor of journalism. He teaches journalism courses and oversees the student-run PR firm that provides hundreds of volunteer service hours each year for non-partisan charitable groups engaged in activism on cultural, educational, environmental and workforce equity issues. With more than 20 years of experience in print and broadcast media, Swanson has worked as a reporter, writer, photographer, talk show host, and TV news assignments manager. His research interests are in media and society, and the use of web pages and podcasts in support of corporate image.
