Diane L. Huber, PhD, RN, FAAN, CNAA, BC is a Professor at the College of Nursing (UI
CON) and the College of Public Health, the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, where she
is core faculty in the Nursing Systems Administration program, Systems and Practice Area
of Study; and she also is the Research Director for “Underage Drinking: Building Health
Care System Responses”, an NIH-funded grant. She also is Adjunct Associate Director,
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Adjunct Faculty at the University of
Minnesota’s School of Nursing. Professor Huber is a nationally recognized speaker,
academic, and consultant in nursing administration who teaches, presents and does
research in case and disease management. Her research is focused on nurse and case
manager activity dose, case and disease management healthcare systems models in substance
use treatment, and the Nursing Management Minimum Data Set (NMMDS). 

Dr. Huber has taught leadership and management and community health nursing at the
undergraduate level and teaches nursing administration, case management, and health
policy at the graduate level. She is PI for an interdisciplinary case management
curriculum project and has received the two UI CON prestigious teaching awards. Dr. Huber
also has been the Associate Editor of the peer reviewed journal Outcomes Management. She
is the author/editor of the textbook Leadership and Nursing Care Management, now in its
third edition as an edited text and translated into Spanish. She is the editor of the
book Disease Management: A Guide for Case Managers. Professor Huber has been an
investigator in over 20 funded research awards. She has authored over 50 journal
articles, books, monographs and book chapters. Her nursing background includes positions
as staff nurse, nursing supervisor, and assistant director of nursing for maternal-child
services. 

Dr. Huber is active in local community service and in regional and national professional
nursing organizations and has a depth of executive leadership experience. She has been
the Treasurer of the Midwest Nursing Research Society, served as the Chair of the Board
of Directors of the Commission for Case Manager Certification (2003-2004), has been the
President of Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (2002-2004), and has been the
President of the Johnson County Visiting Nurses Association’s Board of Directors (2002).
Professor Huber is a Magnet Hospital reviewer. She has served on numerous panels and task
forces, has been a grant reviewer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and is on the
editorial boards or peer review panels of Western Journal of Nursing Research,
Lippincott’s Case Management, Clinical Nursing Research, JONA’s Issues in Healthcare Law,
Ethics, & Regulation, Professional Case Management: The Leader in Evidence-Based
Practice, International Journal for Quality in Health Care, Addiction, and Journal of
Health Services Research & Policy.
