‘God is Our Refuge and Strength’: Martin Luther in the Perception of Ellen G. White
Perceptions of the Protestant Reformation in Seventh-day Adventism (2018)

Abstract
Ellen White was deeply interested in the life and experience of Martin Luther. In her three primary publications, he emerges as the Protestant Reformer par excellence. The material of her narrative was essentially complete by 1883, and it was streamlined by her in 1884, only to be slightly expanded four years later to give a more direct voice to Luther himself. She emphasized the authority of Scripture and salvation by faith in Christ against the backdrop of the great controversy between light and darkness, and God’s providential working to set an example for those preparing for coming events.
