	<p>This study is part of a larger study that uses mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative methods) to investigate preservice teachers’ knowledge and understanding of multiculturalism and to prepare preservice teachers to work in diverse class-rooms. The results indicate two findings: 1) that preservice teachers come from homogeneous backgrounds; and 2) Schools of Education must begin early in teacher education programs to integrate multiculturalism throughout their program of study. The implications of the results suggest that for true understanding of diversity and multiculturalism specific methods and strategies must be implemented through rigorous training in teacher education.</p>

	<p>The service learning immersion experience in Central America benefitted preservice teachers, which resulted in a collaborativeproject on the analysis of languages spoken at the primary to middle school level. This study researches, collects data, and analyzesresults from one school system in the country of Nicaragua in hopes of acquiring sufficient data to share and compare with schoolsystems in the United States. The purpose of this study is to determine the number of students in a private primary- intermediateschool who are bilingual or trilingual, investigate the various languages spoken within the school, study how the school systemaccommodates non-Spanish speaking students, and to learn as much as possible about teaching on the international level.</p>
