Abstract
NOTISes was a newsletter published by the NOTIS company for its library technology users. The development in the 1980's of large integrated library systems to manage all of the library's business functions and to make library collections searchable through computer interfaces represented a fundamental shift in how libraries operated and how they served their constituents. This article, written with the director of the Forsyth Library at Fort
Hays State University in 1990, provides a historical picture of the work of librarians to provide technology for students and faculty and to integrate new technology workflows for managing library business into the traditional library environment at a comparatively small institution.
