Since 1999, Dr. Conn has served at Cal Poly as Vice Provost for Academic Programs & Undergraduate Education and Professor of City & Regional Planning. Dr. Conn previously held tenured faculty appointments in Planning at UCLA and Virginia Tech. He also served as Special Assistant to the Provost, Head of Environmental Design & Planning, and Associate Director of the University Center for Environmental & Hazardous Materials Studies at Virginia Tech. During his career to date, he has directed grants and contracts valued in excess of $2 million funded by such entities as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, the Virginia Department of Waste Management, and the California Integrated Waste Management Board. He has consulted widely. Dr. Conn has authored, co-authored, or edited two books, seven book chapters, thirty refereed publications and numerous other articles, reports, reviews, and conference presentations.
