Dr. David Saunders joined the faculty of the Department of Music at Boise State
University in 1996, teaching horn and music theory. He earned his D.M.A. at the State
University of New York at Stony Brook, a master’s degree from the Yale University School
of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from the St. Louis Conservatory of Music. His teachers
have included William Purvis, Paul Ingraham, Roland Pandolfi, David Wetherill, and Arnold
Jacobs. Dr. Saunders has performed extensively, including as principal horn with the
Cleveland Opera, the Cleveland Ballet, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, and the Albany
Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of chamber groups including the Great Lakes Brass
Quintet, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra Woodwind Quintet, the Albany Brass, and the
Northeasterly Winds Chamber Ensemble. At Boise State, he is a member of both the Faculty
Brass Quintet and the Faculty Wind Quintet, and he has been the longtime principal horn
of the New Hampshire Music Festival in the summers. In addition, Dr. Saunders is a
frequent guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician, and was the long-time conductor of
the Treasure Valley Youth Symphony. He is a member of the International Horn Society, the
Northwest Horn Society, the College Music Society, and the West Coast Conference of Music
Theory and Analysis.
