Abstract

This paper reviews the economic analysis of damages generally, shows the paradoxes that arise when economic analysis is used to evaluate noneconomic damages, and outlines three alternative damage measures: value of statistical life (VSL), happiness equivalent, and Hand Rule Damages (HRD).
