David Atkins has worked in academic libraries in one form or fashion since 1985. After an academic year spent in the UK, and then stints in student and fulltime library staff positions, David decided to make libraries career. In 1995, He completed an MA in Library Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Since joining the professional ranks, David held positions at Louisiana State University and the University of Tennessee. Over the past 14 years David served in a variety of positions such as life sciences librarian, electronic reference services, interlibrary services, access services, and collections management. David is active in many state, regional, and international resource sharing endeavors. He has presented many regional and national papers concerning resource sharing. Over the years, David served on a variety of ACRL/STS and RUSA/STARS committees, including time as chair of the STS Publications committee and chair of the STARS international interlibrary loan. David also established a cooperative library exchange program with Makerere University Libraries in Kampala Uganda, providing Makerere U. professional development programming and an electronic document delivery system. Presently, David serves as the Head of the University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries Resources Sharing and Document Delivery department. When not at his desk or running around the library, David looks out his window at the Great Smoky Mountains where he enjoys doing pretty much everything you can do in the Great Smoky Mountains.
