Abstract

The first two parts of the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index1 are what they claim to be. They’re histories, written with scholarship, objectivity and distance. I can claim none of this for my contribution to the history of the Index for one simple reason: I still work here. What this paper represents is a memoir rather than a history. It is about what I’ve been doing for a living for 20 years, longer than any of my predecessors. Whatever scholarship I practice will involve me racking my brain for memories as the primary source, rather than relying on documentation prepared and, to a certain extent, forgotten.
