A policy of neglect and cowardice, a pay-off of death
The Massachusetts Daily Collegian, by Bill Israel

Original Article

Posted By:Thor, 9/15/2001 12:13:00 PM

Many commentators are describing the disasters in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania as terrorist attacks -- the worst since Pearl Harbor 60 years ago. None I've seen call them what they are: the predictable result of American policy. [SNIP] In contrast, George Bush appeared in Florida yesterday, campaigning for brother Jeb's effort to hold onto the office he used to steal a national election. George Bush said he intends to hunt down the "terrorists." He then flew Air Force One to Louisiana, taking refuge in a bunker near Omaha, as far from coastal danger as you can run. How can we expect anything better, when we pursue a policy of neglect? How can we hope for better with a policy-maker who hid out during the Vietnam War, and remains hidden now? Why are we, then, surprised that a policy of neglect and cowardice results in a pay-off of death for thousands? How can we be so blind? How long will we remain so?

Comments:

This article is absolutely disgusting.

Why post it then?

Don't give traitors like this a forum.

Let 'em rot in cyberspace somewhere.

End of story.

While posting this article gives it a greater forum, it also exposes the stuff that is being promulgated in our centers of 'higher learning.'

This Israel is not America's friend.

[How can we be so blind? How long will we remain so?

Methinks the two sentences are related. Let's send this ba$tard to Afghanistan where he belongs (preferably right before the bombing begins).

Reply 5 - Posted by: Alabama1, 9/15/2001 12:18:29 PM

The implication in the full text of this article is that while Kunte negotiated and negotiated hard for peace, the Bush Administration decided to ignore terrorists to the point where they had to take action.

Reply 6 - Posted by: FreedomAtStake56, 9/15/2001 12:18:46 PM

Our universities have, indeed, become the seat of the hate Americasocialist/communist elite that poison the minds of our children.

The day of the attack, a professor in the SMSU Political Science Dept. in Missouri named Bartee, allegedly told her class that George Bush had allowed this attack in order to "get his missile shield".

At the time of an unspeakbly horrible national tragedy, these folks have such hatred for Republicans, America and freedom that they are as blind as the Islamic fundamentalists.

We are paying our taxes and paying our children's tuition to be taught this filth.

What a ridiculous idiot.

Reply 8 - Posted by: joao, 9/15/2001 12:21:54 PM

I'm not sure of his point. Except that he doesn't like Bush. How sad that someone so incoherent is charged with teaching our young people.

People like this are just upset that it is Bush getting all the glory instead of Gore. If Gore was president, they would would be 100% for retaliation.

So let me get this straight, this is all Bush's fault?

OK

So how come these killers were training for this during *Clinton's* term in office?

I'm not blaming this on clinton, but to blame an attack that took at least a year to pull together on a guy who hasn't been in office that long is a level of stupidity reserved for journalism "professors".

Yes I am sure Bill Israel would be happier with Mr. Clinton in office he could then run out a burn an American flag and make everything better. You left wing commies and gutless wonders are all the same.
It doesn’t go unnoticed that rep Mehan said that it was all spin and pr about air force one being threatened. And then running away from that same statement not 24 hours later. And that Barbara Lee D- California giving aid and sanction to the enemy by voting against America in congress. With People like Israel we would be flying the Flag of the raising sun or speaking German now.

Not another penny of Federal or state support to universities who allow faculty members to spew such evil. This is not academic or First Amendment freedom. This is treasonous speech and, at a minimum does not merit taxpayer support.

This illogical jerk is a Professor? What a joke. I posted on their comments section, essentially said same thing #14 said here.

Reply 31 - Posted by: GloriaM, 9/15/2001 12:54:51 PM

The message of this posting? That this is the mindset of "journalism professors" who are the teachers of America's left wing media lame-brains. The only real question is, why would America's business leaders who own most of the nation's media infrastructure, hire this generation of brain-damaged journalists? Let's get together a list of the 1,000 major stockholders in American media . . . and bombard them with this guy's article. You don't need to have submitted yourself to a 4-year lobotomy in the country's "leading" journalism schools to write and report the news. If investors force media managers to hire only anchors and analysts and columnists and yes, lowly "reporters" who do NOT have journalism degrees, the country's intellectural and moral health will get a reprieve at last . . .

This was my reply:

How laughable you are professor, but it is good to see people like you still exist, you make it sooo easy to unmask the leftists, and the liberals as truly un-American.
You claim to be a professor but know almost nothing.
Isreal defends itself from the same people who blew up the WTC - the people you embrace.
You slap our service men and women in the face by claiming it is cowardice to evacuate when under attack (Everyone who has actually served, knows this is the first thing you do, it's called taking cover). The REAL comards are the ones like you that take the side of the terrorist, in order to save yourself having to have a backbone.
You also slap in the face all those reservists being called to duty (Just as George W. Bush was a reservist pilot during Vietnam)...But I guess it was much easier to be a well protected journalist with a bodygaurd like Al Gore, than actually fly a military jet aircraft)...Just where are Al Gore's pulitizer prize winning articles of courage under fire...Ha, Ha, Ha????????

If you knew anything, you would realize the Palestinians (Arabs who came up with the name Palestinian in the 1960s as part of a advertising campaign) are stuck because their fellow ARABS refused to resettle them.
Ask yourself why they still live in refuge camps decades later, when all of Europe was resettled within five years of WWII.
As with most Liberals your hate shines through when we get to hear your own words, un filtered by a willing press corps.
You lost, Bush won, your terrorist pals will lose and America will win!

You can, in the meantime continue to celebrate Bill Clintons pardoning of terrorists and letting them off the hook for their despicable acts for eights years.
I hope your school is proud enough of you to include a copy of this in each of their recruitment letters for new students and it is given to every family upon visiting campus so they know the kind of "teaching" they can expect for their kids. Perhaps you can advertise in Gaza.

Here is the text of an email I just sent to this ivory-tower jerk.

Dear Prof. Israel,

In regards to your article, "A policy of neglect and cowardice, a pay-off of death": It would have been much better had your article concentrated on the Clinton Administration's neglect of our defense
needs during the last eight years. Instead, your inane rant against our President has been contradicted by what we know to be the true threat he faced and the steps he took at the urging of the Secret Service.

As an educator, I often have to face the arguements of those who oppose tenure for teachers paid by the public. Hate filled and ingnorant articles such as yours make it impossible for me to refute these critics
since you prove their point so unarguably with such trash passed off as academic comments.

Shame on you.

Reply 43 - Posted by: yousaidit, 9/15/2001 1:54:06 PM

This guy's article is just as simplistic as all the rants here that this is all Clinton's fault. They're both shortsighted, ignorant, and dellusional.

Filled with lies. Blames Bush's Palestinian policy when this has been in planning for years and Bin Laden wants us out not just of Israel, but all the Middle East. Blames us for not attnding the racist Durban conference, as if attending would have made Bin Laden call off the killers. Attacks Bush for being in Florida (?!) and a coward. It is so stupid it's unbelievable. And yes, attacks like this on out president are attempts to undermine our country's resolve.

It ends . . .

Finally, my objection to Israel's insensitive comments is only equaled by my amazement at the apparent lack of judgment exercised by the staff of the Daily Collegian in its publication. Apparently the word *Professor* qualifies the biased ramblings of a bitter journalist as expert analysis. The leadership at our school newspaper is as much at fault for these inappropriate remarks as its original source and this insensitivity should not be passively abhorred by its readership. I encourage those who find this editorial to be objectionable to write those responsible for its publication.

The fact is than nests of professors like this one, (Many of them Vietnam draft dodgers and protesters), can be found in a number of our public-funded institutions of higher education. This condition is most intense in New England, the New York City area, and the west coast.

The people to be writing to are not professors. They will dismiss us out of hand. I recommend we forward these types of articles to state legislators, governors and members of the boards of trustees of these public institutions.

With the article, ask these elected officials why our tax dollars are funding institutions which instead of providing higher learning have become viper dens of left wing revisionism and hate for America.

As for the dates of his degrees, he may have been an editor or reporter for some lefty rag who went back to get a doctorate so he get a position on the faculty. I had to think about that last sentence. I certainly do not want to describe this moron as a "teacher"

Reply 60 - Posted by: KCSTAN, 9/15/2001 2:34:09 PM

While I may or may not agree with some of the assumptions of this article, trying to place blame either on Bush or Clinton is totally out of line. There will be ample time for debate of the causes later.

For now it is important for us to support G. W. Bush as the president and Commander in Chief of the Armed Services. I did not support him in the election, but I am proud to have him serve as my leader and will support his decisions. I am confident in his abilities and in the capable staff he has chosen. There should be no second guessing our decisions at this time and we should not give our enemies even a hint that there is anything less that total unity behind our efforts.

Reply 65 - Posted by: rectifier, 9/15/2001 3:31:50 PM

There are so many statements in this polemic where objective “journalism” has been replaced by political bias and distorted or incomplete distant and recent history that it’s hard to know where to begin. His idolization of Roosevelt and denigation of President Bush is no less a manifestation of a fanatical political fundamentalism as are the terrorists’ dedication to the most extreme aspects of religious fundamentalism.
Let me list a few.
His great god “master politician” FDR “moved them [Americans] skillfully through a ‘Back Door to War’. This after blaming Americans 60 years ago for ignoring the twin threats of Japanese militarism and German National Socialism. Who does he think was guiding American policy in the 9 years preceding WWII? FDR was elected in 1932. Who allowed anti-Semitism to proliferate to the extent that the US turned away Jewish refugees from pre-war Nazi Germany? If you answered FDR, you’re right. What courage did it take for FDR to go to Congress on Dec 8th 1941 to ask for a declaration of war although “unable to walk.” This incapacity (from polio) was carefully hidden from the American public throughout most of his tenure and became generally known only after his third term in office. Now that’s courage; yeah right!
“George Bush appeared in Florida…campaigning for brother Jeb’s effort to hold onto the office he used to STEAL [emphasis added] a national election”. If he means that it was inappropriate for Jeb to campaign for Dubya, should he then have supported Gore? Why should Dubya not now campaign for Jeb?
He then accuses President Bush of “taking refuge in a bunker near Omaha” That “bunker” is the former headquarters of SAC and currently harbors the National Airborne Operations Center which supports FEMA. An appropriate place to be for a few hours while the extent of the threat to the Nation’s capitol was being assessed.
FDR had no such problem in 1941…FDR was in DC on Dec 7th and the eastern US was out of reach of the Japanese.
“How can we hope for better with a policy-maker [G. W. Bush] who hid out during the Vietnam War.” Hello? GW was in the NG and was a fighter pilot; it’s that other guy who dodged the draft and took off for Europe.
“Why are we…surprised that a policy of neglect and cowardice results in a pay-off of death for thousands?” Here he’s referring to GW who’s been in charge for 8 months. If there is any validity to this complaint it should be directed toward the guy in charge for the previous 8 years.

Being a resident of Massachusetts, my tax money supports this institution (U Mass) and by extension helps to pay Bill Israel’s salary.
Free speech is fine, but I don’t have to pay for this guy’s aberrations, especially if he has a captive audience of students whose grades depend on what he teaches them.

If you’d like to know more about this guy, or how to reach him, his bio can be found here: http://www.umass.edu/journal/UMAJournalism/faculty-israel.html
You might find it interesting.
