Malaysia Telecommunications Sectors Privatization Experience

Abstract

The telecommunication sector in Malaysia has seen significant growth and structural changes over the last few decades. As such, it is of no surprise that the incumbent national telecommunication company, TelekomMalaysia (TM) also underwent massive changes that included changes in ownership and business portfolios. In terms of performance, this paper found efficiency improvements for the national telecommunication company postprivatization as compared to its public-ownership years. The companys performance saw efficiency improvements in both its fixed line and overall business sector.
