Supporting the University’s Vision through Campus Outreach & Targeted Research Support for the Sciences

Abstract

In an effort to align itself to the university’s vision, the UH Libraries have been evaluating ways in which they can support this goal. The Science Team, a cross-departmental group of librarians from the Liaison Services and Branch Services departments, is in a unique position to help support research efforts on campus. We are working on a number of projects aimed at integrating the library more fully into the university’s research efforts. These projects include an assessment of the data management needs of NIH and NSF grant recipients on campus and an evaluation of the non-traditional research needs of research groups that have been targeted as a high priority by the university. Both of these projects involve extensive outreach that has resulted in new alliances with individuals, groups and departments on campus that previously fell outside of the purview of Liaison and Branch Services. We believe that these efforts will result in the UH Libraries becoming integral to the research efforts that have been deemed so critically important to the University of Houston’s vision.
