Abstract

Quality is never an accident, it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skilful execution. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives. When one looks at the impressive presentation of cases and law reports through effective IT database in other jurisdictions of the world, what readily comes to mind is that there is indeed a possibility of perfection where attention has been paid to fine details. Indeed, only the most cynical of legal practitioners would be left unimpressed by the excellent and exciting IT case management systems that these jurisdictions have brilliantly succeeded in putting together for efficiency and consistency in judgements and law reporting. One must therefore emphasize that the rate at which our Appellate court divisions and even Supreme Court are churning out inconsistent judgements is becoming alarming and unacceptable. There is indeed an urgent need to evolve an updated information technology systems similar to those used abroad for proper law reporting and consistency in Nigerian Judiciary. This paper will expound the extent of inconsistencies in the decisions of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Divisions in Nigeria and the need of an IT-enabled law reporting and case management.
