Climate Change Conversations in Libraries: Stabilizing Ourselves and Our Communities
Sustainability Round Table, American Library Association (2019)
  • Madeleine K. Charney
Abstract
In this American Library Association preconference in Washington, D.C., a group of ~35 librarians explored the “wicked problem” of climate change in a convivial World Café setting. Together we faced our fears and identified our strengths, leadership and creativity in relationship to climate disruption. Because this disruption has significant impacts on our communities’ mental health, we learned a variety of practices to ground ourselves and find deeper meaning day-to-day. From this place of stability, we can better educate and serve our patrons -- now and in more troubled times.
