Abstract
This article offers poetry criticism of the work of poet Ruth Stone. It examines Stone's use of pain and grief in creating verses of love poetry. The poems "Love," "Tell Me" and "Pokeberries" are examined for their use of language. The article describes the experiences of Stone, who raised a family and made money by teaching when her husband committed suicide in 1959.
