Dr Catherine Scott is a senior research fellow at ACER. She has a background in
primary and secondary teaching and also has 20 years experience of teaching and
researching at the university level, in the fields of psychology and education. She has
also studied counselling and has worked as school counsellor/psychologist. She is a full
member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian College of Educators
and an international affiliate of the American Psychological Association.
Dr Scott has over 20 years experience of research and evaluation, including evaluations
of programs of professional development for state and Catholic school systems, school
counsellor training programs and vocational training programs for women in TAFE NSW.
She has presented at international, national and state conferences and has conducted
consultancies with a variety of educational bodies nationally and internationally. Dr
Scott has also provided expert input to national parliamentary inquiries into teacher
training and teaching.
She is a past member of the NSW Branch Committee of the Australian College of Educators
and the Steering Committee responsible for the NSW Minister for Education and Training
and ACE Quality Teaching Awards introduced in 2001 until 2007. She also chaired the
university sector panel of the Awards form 2001-2008. She is currently a co-opted member
and membership secretary of the Victorian Branch committee of the Australian College of
Educators Australian College of Educators. She has also received national recognition for
university teaching, having been nominated and accepted for the Council for University
Teaching’s national register for exemplary practitioners.
She is on the editorial boards of Tutoring and Mentoring and PsychCritiques and reviews
for a number of other international journals, including Educational Researcher, the
British Educational Research Journal and Journal of Educational Administration. She is a
visiting fellow at Huddersfield University and a senior associate of RMIT.
