Catherine Nock BSc (UNSW), MSc, PhD (SCU) Cathy is Laboratory Manager, Southern Cross Plant Science and manages the the Centre’s genetics laboratories and plant propagation facilities, including physical containment (PC2) and quarantine-certified genetics and tissue culture laboratories and glasshouses. Following undergraduate studies at UNSW in biology, she worked for several years in palaeontology before relocating to the north coast. She attained an MSc on the molecular evolution of Australia's elapid snakes and a PhD in conservation genetics. Main interests include evolution, phylogenetics, DNA barcoding and population genetics of Australian species. Current research is focused on the application of next generation sequencing to the identification of plant species and varieties.
