Dr. Catarina I. Kiefe, Ph.D., M.D., is Professor of Quantitative Health Sciences and
Medicine, and Chair, Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, at the University of
Massachusetts Medical School. Prof. Kiefe’s main research theme is applying rigorous
research methods to the transformation of health care delivery. To that effect, she has
contributed to the science of measuring quality of care and has been engaged in multiple
federally funded studies in the general area of implementation science. She studies
interventions that lead to change in physician practice patterns and to the reduction of
disparities in health care. In 2012 Dr. Kiefe was named the inaugural Melvin S. and
Sandra L. Cutler Chair in Biomedical Research at UMass Medical School.
