Abstract
Project SHINE is a national service-learning initiative in which student volunteers (or “SHINE coaches”) work in existing English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to provide one-on-one mentorship to elders who are preparing for their citizenship exam. This project, funded by the Office for Refugee Resettlement, is a partnership between Boise State University and the Idaho Office for Refugees. The project helps to support ESL classes for elder refugees and also provides service and research opportunities for Boise State students.
