A native of Colombia, Carlos Pablo Márquez's own research interests are in the area of law and economics and the economics of regulation and competition law. He earned a law degree, a master's in Economics degree and a bachelor's degree in philosophy at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he lectured law and economics and regulation of financial institutions. He earned his master's in law degree from Harvard University, where he was the Enrique Low Murtra scholar, and is currently working on his Doctoral thesis at Oxford University, where he is Francisco José de Caldas scholar. A former advisor to the Minister of Justice and the Colombia's competition, consumer and IP authority, currently an external advisor for Escobar Gil Consultores, he is an avid soccer player and an amateur oil painter.
