About Caile Spear

Dr. Caile Spear ran the health education & promotion program for 25 years and she coordinated a variety of community-based projects. Caile worked collaboratively with community, state and federal organizations. She secured grant funding, taught grant writing, and reviewed grant proposals. Her current service efforts are focused on creating sustainable home sharing programs in Boise.

Dr. Spear joined the Department of Kinesiology at Boise State University in 1996 to supervise the Health Promotion program. She has a B.S. in Community Health Education from Texas Woman's University, and an M.S. in Corporate Health Promotion and a Ph.D. in Health Science, both from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Her research interests include abstinence-based sexuality education, asset development in youth, community based participatory research, service-learning, and health promotion. She has published in the American Journal of Health Behavior, American Journal of Health Education and American Journal of Health Studies. Dr. Spear was actively involved in service and service-learning with the Health Promotion majors, where they worked in the community providing health education, and each fall the seniors put on the REACH Health Fair for Boise State University and the surrounding community. In 2012, Dr. Spear was named a fellow and became president of the American Association for Health Education (AAHE).
