Abstract
Unlike clinical care, with its focus on the individual, public health focuses on preventing disease and promoting health in communities based upon a population health analysis. Greater emphasis will be placed upon health promotion and disease prevention, the safety of communities and workers, school-based health programming, and the health of underserved and disadvantaged populations. Public health research has an increased emphasis on behavioral change to prevent risky behaviors and activities that lead to substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, and environmental and occupational hazards. These changes have created a broad array of new opportunities for professionals with advanced training in public health.
