I received my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1984, with an emphasis in reading. Prior to my work at Cal Poly, I held faculty and administrative positions at Louisiana State University, University of Oklahoma, and University of Northern Colorado. My research has focused on literacy, particularly at the secondary level, and teacher education. I serve on the Board of Examiners for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and on the Board of International Reviewers for International Recognition in Teacher Education, sponsored by Center for Quality Assurance in International Education.
