About Bettye A. Apenteng

Biography, Disciplines and Teaching Interests
Dr. Apenteng is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, Georgia Southern University. She completed her Ph.D. in Health Services Research, Administration, and Policy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha. She is trained in the application of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in public health and health services research and practice. Her research and practice interests are in the relationships among health organizational structure, behavior and performance and how these relationships collectively shape health systems capacity and optimal functioning; health services access utilization and cost; and health equity and population outcomes. She has a strong passion for end-of-life care and rural health systems and has published extensively in this area.

Dr. Apenteng has expertise in healthcare planning (including strategic planning), quality improvement as well as financial and systems performance assessments. She has led several healthcare system performance, quality improvement and community needs assessment studies, where she provided analytical support and provided technical assistance to rural health organizations. She has worked on several collaborative projects with Georgia health organizations, including the Southwest Area Health Resource Center Workforce Assessment Project, the Migrant Farmworker Health Needs Assessment Project, the Coastal Health District Workforce Development Project, the Flex Operational and Financial Improvement Grant, the Rural Community Health Systems Planning Project and the Rural Hospital Sustainability Project.
