Heist is the director of Macalester’'s Dance Program. Her graduate studies
included work in theory and experiential learning with an emphasis in choreography and
performance. As a Twin Cities choreographer and dancer for more than a decade, Heist’s
experience includes modern dance, musical theater and opera. She has performed in the
Minneapolis Fringe Festival, collaborated in the creation of a dance for the film, Life
Gestures and served as a panelist on the Minnesota State Arts Board and Illinois Arts
Council, awarding fellowships in choreography. 

She has created work for the Christopher Watson Dance Company and has collaborated with
five Twin Cities professional dancers and choreographer Jan Erkert from Chicago in the
making of a documentary on the choreographic process and performance of a dance titled
"Toward Lightness." She has also been a resident artist at the Institute for
Choreogaphy and Dance in Cork, Ireland.
