Abstract

The records of 105 dogs and cats with pneumothorax were evaluated for demographic and clinical variables associated with prognosis. Twenty-one animals were euthanatized, and 84 were treated for their injuries. Eighty-six percent of those treated survived. Factors that predicted survival were absence of dyspnea, lack of need for thoracocentesis, and an ICU stay of longer than 2 days.
