Barbara Mouly began teaching at the School of Law in 2007 as Visiting Assistant Professor of Law teaching Torts and Lawyering Skills. An experienced attorney, Professor Mouly began practicing law in 1984 as a federal judicial law clerk for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia. Prior to that, in the early 1980s, she worked as Legal Intern for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and also for the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney in Arlington, Virginia, in addition to serving as Legislative Aide to the Virginia General Assembly. She also was an attorney for a firm in Richmond in the late 1980s where she researched and wrote for a litigation team.

Formerly an Assistant Professor of Law, from 1990-1999,at Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Professor Mouly gained valuable teaching experience in Torts, Evidence, Legal Research and Writing, and Professional Responsibility. While there, she also served on Admissions and Library Committees.

In 2004, she began working in juvenile and criminal practice courts in Virginia. Before that, Professor Mouly practiced with a law group in Virginia from 2001- 2004, practicing personal injury litigation, malpractice, and products liability.

Professor Mouly earned her bachelor’s degree in English and was the recipient of the T.G. Jones Literary Prize. She earned her master’s in music in 1976 and continued her education at the Virginia Trial Advocacy Institute at the University of Virginia in 2002. Mouly is the author of Intelligent Design and Tort Law: Partners in a Unified Theory of Causation, 3 Liberty University Law Review, at 543- 574, No. 2 (Spring 2009).

She is admitted to practice in Virginia, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia.
