Abstract

The effect of aid on economic growth is unclear. It may be more plausible to argue that aid impacts the quality of life. We find that the level of US aid has no impact on the quality of life of people in recipient countries as measured by the Human Development Index of those countries. Trade is significant in improving HDI.
