Trends in the Italian Payment System: Remarks on the Forthcoming Project on Inter-bank Wholesale Settlements
Abstract
The article describes how the new real-time wholesale settlements work and the reasons behind their adoption in all the advanced banking systems; it reports also how the Italian real-time procedure (BI-RE) works and the participation arrangements of the Italian banks to the real-time settlement systems.
