Dr Arianne Carvalhedo Reis is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Tourism, Leisure and
Work, based in the School of Tourism & Hospitality Management at the Coffs Harbour
campus. Arianne has B.Sc./B.Tchg (UERJ, Brazil) and a M.A. (UGF, Brazil) in Physical
Education and a PhD in Tourism (University of Otago, New Zealand). Before leaving her
home country, Brazil, Dr Reis worked as a project manager for the Ceará State Department
of Sports and subsequently as a Lecturer in Ceará State University (Brazil). While
undertaking her PhD studies in New Zealand, she worked as a Casual Lecturer for the
Department of Tourism, University of Otago and as an Assistant Research Fellow for the
Centre for Recreation Research in the same university. Arianne’s main research interests
lie in two areas: leisure/tourism/recreation and the natural environment, and sport
tourism. Within these areas of research, Arianne has been particularly active in
researching the sociology of outdoor recreation and leisure, human-wildlife interactions
and relationships, environmental ethics, tourism research methodologies and impacts of
sport events on the environment and on culture.
