Singapore Management University uses seminar style discussion oriented small classes to introduce interactive learning environments. Several courses employ small group and individual projects to encourage learning by doing pedagogy. This paper describes a Freshman first term course whose exercises and assessments were designed to both facilitate and measure the two types of learning outcomes expected of the students. Qualitative and quantitative results from three sections of this course offered during the Fall of 2004 are reported in this paper.
