Ann Marie Smeraldi has focused her career in librarianship on information literacy
instruction and the needs of first year college students as they make the transition to
higher education. She joined the staff of the Michael Schwartz Library as the First Year
Experience and General Education Librarian in spring 2008. In spring 2011 she assumed an
additional role - English Subject Specialist. 

As the First Year Experience Librarian, Ann Marie provides library orientations and
information literacy classes for all sections of ASC 101: Introduction to University
Life. She also teaches a section of this introductory course and serves on the
University's Common Reading Committee. 

As the subject specialist for the English Department, Ann Marie serves the research and
instruction needs faculty, undergraduates, and graduates. She works closely with the
First Year Writing Program faculty to design information literacy sessions that support
the learning outcomes of these foundational writing course. 

Ann Marie earned her Master of Information and Library Science from Kent State
University, Ohio in 2006. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies at
Cleveland State and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999.
